Benefits Information: Questions and Answers About Your Wellness and/or Employee Assistance Program How Does the Employee Assistance Program ("EAP") Work? It is an employer-sponsored program that offers a qualified conseling resource, specializing in the assessment of personal problems. You or a family member may request help by calling us and arranging an appointment. Confidentiality is assured! The discussion is strictly between you and the counselor. What kinds of problems will the EAP deal with? Depending on your plan (please note if your company or organization is listed on the side panel to the left), EAP's deal with a variety of health and/or wellness problems. Human problems - the kind that affect your and your family's personal well being, and your ability to perform on the job. These may include marital difficulties, financial or legal problems, emotional difficulties, or problems caused by addictive illnesses such as workholism, alcoholism, and drug abuse. For specific information, please see the Services section of our Website. But aren't those problems private? What right does the Company have to interfere with an employee's personal life? Certainly, those problems are personal, that is until they begin to have an adverse impact on the employees performance. Many times these problems begin to have an affect on the morale of fellow workers and the overall effectiveness of the organization. The intent of the EAP is to prevent issues from getting worse. It's an offer of a helping hand - not an attempt to pry or punish. What about my family? Does the EAP apply to my spouse, family or significant other? Yes!!! Since an employee's personal well-being can be affected by the problems of loved ones, this program is also made available to anyone who is a part of your life. Who will pay for the cost of this counseling, or the other professional services that may be necessary? The initial assessment is free to the employee and their family members. If further assistance is indicated, the employees health insurance and/or other benefits will be utilized. If services are not covered by insurance, the counselor will make every attempt to minimize the cost. No one will ever be turned away from getting help because of an inability to pay for service. | |||||
